There’s a lot of end of summer events going on this week, and while I’m in no way ready to say goodbye to my favourite season, there is so much on to mark the end of the holidays.
It’s also (somehow!) the final Bank Holiday of the summer this weekend, so make the most of it while you can. From beach cinema screenings and DJ afternoons in various pub courtyards, to the last of the free outdoor theatre shows, there’s plenty to keep you occupied over the next seven days.

🍿 Beach Cinema Screenings Are Back
Fri 28 Aug, 4pm + 8pm / Dumpton Gap Beach
If you went down to the last beach cinema screening at the end of July, you’ll know how great this is. The Ramsgate Community Cinema team are partnering once again with Bayside Cafe at Dumpton Gap, but this time you can watch a family-friendly screening of Moana at 4pm, followed by documentary My Octopus Teacher at 8pm. Bring deckchairs, blankets and jumpers, walk the red carpet as you arrive, and grab some food and drinks from the cafe.

🎬 Dementia Friendly Palace Screenings: Billy Wilder

As part of the Palace’s “Nobody’s Perfect!” Billy Wilder season, they’re presenting six dementia friendly screenings for people living with dementia and their carers, which are free of charge and start from this week. 🎭 Summer Theatre Finale: Grandma’s Shop

Head outside for the finale of Pierremont Hall’s line-up of free summer theatre shows. This time it’s a heart warming true-life story of an eccentric cat-loving shopkeeper. Picnic’s are welcome, but I recommend bringing a blanket as there’s only a few chairs.

Huge congrats to chef Luke Crittenden and his restaurant Aster Broadstairs, who were this week added to the Michelin Guide! Alongside one other Thanet restaurant, The Wellington in Margate. Aster, which is where Stark used to be on Oscar Road, is a vegan wild food restaurant that hosts just eight covers at a time, proving that it’s small but ever so mighty. One of my fav Broadstairs restaurants is bringing even more San Sebastián style to York St. Due to new restrictions, from now on all food and drink served outside Bar Ingo will be standing only. But they’re of course turning that into a positive. They’ll have space for 20 standing covers outside with plenty of ledges/shelves along the walls for glasses and plates, and it is the perfect end of day sun spot, after all.
