I’ve had a lot of fun looking back on all of the summer memories this week. From the fireworks to DJ and beach film nights, Folk Week and the Water Gala, to warm days and new food openings, it’s been a brilliant couple of months.
But I’ve also been compiling the lists for September, which has got me excited for the month ahead. Trust me when I say there’s a lot of great stuff going on!

Wanna work on bringing women (and feminist folks of all genders!) together across Thanet? Love & Power work on impactful campaigns that help change neighbourhoods for the better, whether that’s changing how domestic violence against women gets reported, or getting kids free meals in the holidays. They’re launching a campaign around perimenopause and menopause and GP care and we want to hear your stories - did you have a great GP? A terrible experience? We want to hear it all - and if it’s bad, we want to help you change it....

🏛️ Heritage Open Days Festival

Heritage Open Days Festival kicks off this Fri. Celebrate local history with free events across Thanet. This week in Broadstairs you can head to Dickens House Museum for free entry this Fri and Sat. You can also check out the history of Pierremont Hall, with free tours at 10am and 12pm on Fri, Sat + Sun. There’s lots more on next week too, so keep an eye out for next week’s newsletter for more!

🎩 Dickens Town Trail - A Walk Around Broadstairs
Sat 12 Sep, 1:30 pm + 2:45pm / Meet at the gardens in front of Dickens House Museum
As part of Heritage Open Days, you can also join a Dickens House Museum volunteer for a short walk around Broadstairs this Sat, to discover the town’s connections to Charles Dickens. It’s a short walk of less than an hour with 15 spots available.

🇹🇷 New In Town: No 23 Brunch & Dinner
No 23, 23 Albion Street
There’s another exciting new opening in town. Turkish inspired restaurant No 23 opened on Albion Street just last week, serving up brunches like pancakes and waffles, and dinners like their signature dish: 50/50 Wagyu and Angus beef blend burger. I’m excited to try them out.

Head to Happy Reading Children’s Bookshop above Staple for their free weekly storytime sessions on Fri mornings. As part of Heritage Week, Pierremont Hall is also putting on a free film afternoon for families. Congrats to Little Wave deli, who this week made the final three for Independent Retailer at the Taste of Kent Awards 2026! We’ve got our fingers firmly crossed for them next month.
There’s some refurb work going on at the Dolphin to finally repair their wall. If you’re wondering what’s going on, they’re remaining open while the works go on.
I’m ending with sad news: 27 Harbour Street closed down this week. You can see their announcement here. I know we’ll all miss them immensely and we’re sending a lot of well wishes to the team.
