From new rides to extended opening days, Dreamland has something for everyone this August.

I end every summer with tokens scattered around the house from friend and family visits (and every summer think I should get a season pass!), so I’ll be gathering them up for one last jaunt on the rides (til October) - just me and my wife. A Dreamland date day is something we do every year. And now we’ve got til 2 Sept to do it.

The summer holidays are nearly done but not yet!

Our favourite amusement park has added extra opening dates and has some incredible wristband prices to make it even more affordable to enjoy all the fun of the fair before school starts again.

Don’t miss these five reasons to get down there now.

1.Dreamland Margate is open every day until 2 Sept

The park is open daily including every day of the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Extra dates have just been added on Tue 1 and Wed 2 Sept, so you get two bonus days after the bank holiday rush dies down.

After 2 September the park goes back to weekend only opening. Dreamland’s opening times are 10.30am - 6pm, rides open from 11am.

2. Ride wristbands are 15% off for two more weeks

Wristband prices are frozen at 15% off until 2 September.

Tiny Tots Wristbands are £10.99. They cover the smaller rides including Little River, Cups and Saucers, Ladybirds, Margate Express, Helter Skelter, Noah’s Ark, Magic Rockets, Austin Cars and the Caterpillar Coaster. Ideal for children between 0.8m and 1.2m.

Mega Ride Wristbands are £20.99 and give unlimited access to every ride all day. For anyone over 1.2m.

Prefer to pay as you go?

Standard ride tokens are £3 each, or 20 for £40. One token per ride. Buy them at the booths on site. T&Cs apply.

3. There’s a brand new Bavarian Funhouse

New for this summer- and until Sept only - the Bavarian Funhouse has three levels of wobbly floors, water jets, crazy steps and rolling barrels.

It’s one token per rider, and it’s included in the Mega Wristband. Minimum height is 1m if accompanied, or 1.2m to go in alone.

4. Big names are still to come on the Scenic Stage

The outdoor season goes out on a high. If you haven’t been to a Dreamland gig yet this summer, there are some corkers coming up this month. Don’t miss…

Fri 21 Aug: Nile Rodgers and CHIC, with The Brand New Heavies and James Emmanuel.
Sat 22 Aug: Bastille, with Orla Gartland and Only The Poets.
Sun 30 Aug: Babyshambles, with Big Special, Warmduscher, GANS and PreGoblin.

5. And if you really can’t make it, don’t panic…October half term is already sorted

If you can’t make it this month, the park opens every day of October half term from Sat 24 to Sat 31 Oct. Perfect for entertaining little ones when has weather turned.

Don’t miss… as mentioned above, it’s been announced the Broadstairs Fireworks have been cancelled this week to keep in line with the government’s restrictions due to the drought conditions. The planned bandstand music with Thomas Abrahams is cancelled as well. Disappointing, especially now we’ve finally had a spot of rain, but it’s got to be safety first. • You may have also seen that the Captain Digby is currently closed after an electrical fire earlier this month. It still looks shut, but we’ll update as soon as we hear anything about them re-opening.

• It was a false alarm about the new pizzeria The Base opening on the High Street last week. They’ve told me they’re a couple of weeks delayed, so I’ll update you when I know a definite opening date.

• And another new opening on the horizon: Wagamamas at Westwood Cross is getting ready to open very soon. I’ll let you know when they announce that opening date too!

Broadstairs Folk Week returns this Fri, transforming the town into a living stage with more than 400 events across 20+ venues over seven days. From pub sessions to the Bandstand, the festival offers gigs, workshops, dances, family activities and late-night music every. single. day. I’ve been patiently waiting for this one! I hear there’s a new pizza place opening in town this week. The Base will be serving NYC-style slices of pizza from their new home at the bottom of the High Street, promising “Big slices. Biga flavour.” We saw that they’re opening this Wed, and have reached out for confirmation, but keep an eye on their new Insta page for confirmation and updates.

You won’t be able to miss the big tents going up this week for Broadstairs Folk Week. There’s just so much to list for families in Folk Week, the best bet is to check out their website for exactly what’s going on. But if you head to the Bandstand each morning you’re guaranteed some free kid-friendly entertainment. Clarence the Dragon and the hooden horses always make an appearance, there’s songs and games, and each day is themed if you want to dress up your little ones and really get involved. Here’s the run down of themes: Sat 8 is Under the Sea, Sun 9 is Grandparents’ day, Mon 10 is Circus Day, Tue 11 is Back-to-Front Day, Wed 12 is The Wizard of Oz, Thu 13 is Pirate Day and Fri 14 is Superheroes Day and Clarence’s birthday.

I’m praying the fireworks go ahead this week after last week’s last minute cancellation. There’s also the Broadstairs Water Gala, several free theatre shows, storytime and author talks, wine tastings, sip and paint nights and plenty of live music.

But what I’m most excited for is the beach cinema screenings at Dumpton Gap this Friday. For more on all of that, read on below.

🌊 Broadstairs Water Gala

Mark your calendars, this Wed is the annual Water Gala day! A free, fun-filled family day at the seaside. There’s a big timetable of events, from a Teddy Bears Picnic, to sandcastle competitions, Paddleboard lessons with Kent Surf School, Princess Meet and Greets, and Punch & Judy making its return to Viking Bay. The Summer Fair will also be on Victoria Gardens with stalls and funfair rides, and it all ends with live music at the bandstand and the fireworks display that night. Looking forward to this one! The Ramsgate Community Cinema team are partnering once again with Bayside Cafe at Dumpton Gap to bring you Summer Beach Screenings outside on the sand. Head there on Fri to watch Finding Nemo on the big screen at 4pm, followed by documentary The Deepest Breath (12A) at 8pm. Watch one or both. Bring a towel/blanket or deckchair, bring your own picnic, or Bayside will be serving up their food until 7pm and drinks until 8.

• Broadstairs DJ Joe Corbani has announced he’s running two days of free DJ lessons for kids on Wed 19 and 26 Aug. • Sad news for Broadstairs this week, Izzi at Plantlet has announced she has decided to close the shop. You only have until the end of July to go and enjoy her beautiful plant shop and snap up some plants before she closes the doors.

• Something is cooking in the back yard of Neptune’s Hall. And by that we mean Backyard Birds, their new rotisserie chicken offering coming to their courtyard very soon! Follow their new account for updates.

• Some more new food news… An NYC-style pizza place will be opening at the bottom of the high street, we believe in July. Base Pizzeria will be offering pizza by the slice. We can’t wait! Follow them here.

We’ve got Great Expectations for this one. From Fri to Sun expect the town to be completely taken over with all things Dickens to celebrate the writer’s links to the town. From a Victorian Bathing Beach Party on Viking Bay to kick things off on Fri at midday, to a Victorian Fair at Bleak House on Sat + Sun (10am - 5pm), there will also be plenty of kids entertainment at the Bandstand on all three days, from best bonnet competitions to Punch & Judy (from 11am on Sun). • On top of the new openings we’ve flagged above, last week, aesthetics, hair and health clinic Skin and Moore also had their grand re-opening at their brand new address: 18 St Peter’s Park Road.

• Kent Surf School has also officially moved. This week they announced they’re moving permanently from Viking Bay to Joss Bay! From now on, all of their surf lessons, paddleboard lessons, and equipment hire will take place at Joss. They’ve also announced they’ll be hosting social evenings throughout Summer, with the first one taking place on the beach on Fri 26 Jun.

• Speaking of Joss and Kent Surf School (they’ve had a busy week), they’ve also called on a Summer SUP Solstice all weekend later this month to welcome in the longest day of the year! Bring your boards for sunrise at 4.30am on 20 Jun, or 5.30am on the 21st. It’s going to be pretty special.

The beaches will be less busy for the next few weeks, and it’s also Summer Solstice month! Last year I headed to Stone Bay for it (yes, at 4am), and it was so full of happy vibes, the beaches buzzing, and coffee being served from NāMAKA as the sun rose.

• A couple of Broadstairs restaurants are closed this week for a small break. The Little Sicilian is shut now until Tue 9 Jun, and Fifteen Square Metres is now shut until Wed 10 Jun, when they’ll be back with a new menu.

• Albie and Pearl turns 2 today! As a birthday treat they’re offering 20% off everything in their birthday week this week. Pop on in and say congrats to Marie.

• There’s a Teenage Market taking place later this month at Broadstairs Pavilion! If you’ve got teens, it’s taking place on Sun 14 June, with 30+ stalls and live music. Make sure you head on down.

• The Palace Cinema is hosting Cinema Walks around Thanet this month. You can visit each town and learn about their love for the sights, sounds and sensations of film, from the 1890s to now. The Broadstairs one will be held on Sun 28 Jun.

Hit The Harbour Arm. Don’t Miss POM

As well as bistro classics, POMUS have made a name for themselves for the ‘posh snacks’ that you crave with a chilled glass of wine, on a Saturday afternoon when sitting in the sunshine in Margate is the best place to be in the UK.

POM, their summer pop up on the Harbour Arm really delivers. Think ‘good’ olives, burrata, oysters, anchovies - basically it’s the picnic of dreams, but on a table with a view, with amazing natural sparkling wine and no one’s eating off plastic plates.

The food and wine menu changes monthly depending on what’s available and seasonal but it’ll always be deli style fish, meat, cheese and veggies on offer, so you can nibble on something delicious, soak up that sun and toast your great decision to visit / live in Margate.

Don’t Forget The OG: POMUS

Who knew The Centre was where the foodie tribes of Margate would flock to, but POMUS has become my dead cert fave for special meals, birthday treats and the place where small plates actually fill you up.

A menu that ranges from light and delicate to seriously stuffed that changes with the seasons and isn’t afraid to mix things up, POMUS has consistently delivered with delicious pairings plus their service is always on point - friendly, authoritative and they don’t leave you frantically trying to make eye contact to place an order (for more wine).

And it’s about to come into its own with outside tables that mean you can soak up the sun for a little longer.

DMM’s picks: Chicken karaage, maple syrup, togarashi and Torched mackerel, rillette, blackcurrants, beetroot, dill.

One Ocean: Don’t Miss The First Ocean Summit in Thanet

Living in Thanet, we feel the sea. The changing colours. The every changing mood of the water but also the slow creep of coastal erosion as bits of cliffs crumble and winter storms damage our coastline.

If you swim, snorkel, paddleboard, go crabbing or just enjoy sitting on the beach in Thanet, you’ll want to understand how we can help protect our seas.

Which is why I’m so excited that Turner in Margate is hosting the first ocean conservation festival, One Ocean 2026, a free two-day summit on art, activism and oceans, that will take place on Sat 20 and Sun 21 June.

• Some fab sounding Summer Circles have been announced by Evie at Sea, Spirit and Stones. On Thu 23 July there will be a Women’s Beach Circle in Broadstairs, and on Thu 30 July a Family Beach Circle. They always look dreamy. Book up here.

• The Broadstairs Fireworks dates are out! There’s just three this Summer, so plan well: Wed 22 July and Wed 29 July (the Water Gala finale), both at 9.45pm. Plus Wed 19 Aug at an earlier time of 9.15pm, all with music playing at the bandstand.

• Thanet’s beaches have been awarded 4 Blue Flags and 12 Seaside Awards this week. Four bays - Minnis Bay, Botany Bay, Joss Bay and Ramsgate Main Sands - scored Blue Flag status for their excellent water quality and elite facilities.

• Save the date: Pride Broadstairs has been announced for 20 September this year! In fact, it’s going to be a Pride Weekender, with Pride Ramsgate taking place the day before as well. More details to come as we get them.
